Start with the space, not the product

Measure the area you would actually use, including access around the frame. Consider whether the position stays clear through the year — a spot that is open in March may be shaded by foliage in July.

South-facing is the strongest orientation in Great Britain, but south-east and south-west positions still perform respectably across a day.

Mounting and weather

Ground-mounted frames must be fixed or ballasted as the manufacturer instructs. Wind loading is the main risk, and a temporary arrangement is not acceptable.

Cable routing should follow the manual, be protected from damage, and not create a trip hazard across a path or lawn.

Never improvise mounting or cabling. Follow the supplied manual exactly.
